Call for papers

Dear Colleagues,

After two very successful and fruitful Workshops on Gender, Methodology and the Ancient Near East held in Helsinki, Finland (October 2014) and Barcelona, Spain (February 2017), we are very happy to announce that the third Workshop on Gender, Methodology and the Ancient Near East will be held at Ghent University, Belgium, from 8 to 10 April 2019.

Our aim is to bring together both established and up-and-coming scholars whose work brings gender studies theory to bear on various materials and contexts in order to discuss different methodological approaches to gender studies within the framework of Ancient Near Eastern studies.

Participants can register through this website. Please register before January 30th 2019.

We invite all scholars interested in and working on gender related topics within the broad field of Ancient Near Eastern studies, including but not limited to ancient history, archaeology, art history, assyriology, egyptology and Biblical studies to submit a paper or poster proposal.

Abstracts of no more than 300 words are to be sent before November 30th 2018 to gemane3@ugent.be. Abstracts will be subject to peer review by the Scientific Committee. Authors will be informed by mid December 2018 on whether their paper or poster proposal is accepted or not.

Papers presented during the third Workshop on Gender, Methodology and the Ancient Near East will be published in a proceedings volume. Further information on deadlines and instructions for authors will follow in due time.

We are looking forward to seeing you in Ghent in April!
